Terms of Service
Last updated: 5 October 2026
Operating entity: JolHil. Governing jurisdiction: Finland. Published contact: admin@jolhil.com.
1. Who these terms are for
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between JolHil ("we", "us") and the Shopify merchant who installs the app ("Merchant", "you"). By installing or using JolHil, the Merchant agrees to these Terms.
Shoppers who chat with the widget on a Merchant's store are not a party to this agreement — their use of the widget is covered by the Merchant's own store terms and by our Privacy Policy, under which we act as the Merchant's data processor.
2. What the service is
JolHil is a Shopify app that embeds an AI-powered product assistant on a Merchant's storefront. It reads the Merchant's own product catalogue (via the read_products and write_products Shopify scopes) and uses it to answer Shopper questions and generate recommendations, with an optional AI-generated visual preview feature. We do not access the Merchant's customer list, orders, or payment information, and a purchase itself always completes on the Merchant's own Shopify checkout — we're never a party to the transaction.
3. Trial and subscription plans
- Free trial: new installs get a 14-day trial at no charge, with no purchase required to try the app.
- Starter plan — $29/month: automatic webhook catalogue sync, email support.
- Growth plan — $99/month: everything in Starter, plus higher daily assistant usage limits and priority support.
- Plan limits are enforced based on daily AI calls, tokens, and images generated, which the Merchant can see in their own account usage view.
4. Billing
- Billing runs entirely through Shopify's own Billing API — we never see or store the Merchant's card details, and the charge appears on the Merchant's existing Shopify invoice rather than a separate bill from us.
- Subscriptions renew automatically every 30 days in USD until cancelled by the Merchant.
- If a trial or paid plan lapses (for example, on non-payment), the widget shows Shoppers a plain-language notice that the store's assistant is temporarily unavailable, rather than failing silently or pretending to work; full functionality resumes automatically once billing is current again.
- Merchants can cancel at any time from within Shopify; cancellation takes effect per Shopify's own subscription-cancellation timing, and we do not charge a separate cancellation fee.
- We may adjust plan pricing or limits going forward; material changes to existing paid plans will be communicated before they take effect.
5. Merchant responsibilities
- You're responsible for the accuracy of the product catalogue data the assistant draws from — we generate recommendations from what's in your store, and we can't correct for incorrect prices, descriptions, or inventory you haven't fixed on your end.
- You're responsible for your own store's compliance obligations toward your Shoppers (consumer protection, advertising standards, sector-specific rules), since you remain the controller of your Shopper relationships even though we process some of that data on your behalf.
- You agree not to use the app to generate, catalogue, or promote illegal content, or to attempt to access another Merchant's data, reverse-engineer the service, or interfere with its normal operation.
6. The AI assistant and visual preview feature
- Product recommendations are generated from the Merchant's own catalogue and are intended as a genuinely useful starting point — not a guarantee of price, availability, fit, or that a given answer is factually perfect. AI-generated text can be wrong; Merchants and Shoppers should treat it accordingly.
- The optional "see it with your photo" preview is explicitly AI-generated and always labelled "AI-generated preview — illustrative only, not a guarantee of fit, colour or accuracy." It is not a promise of how a product will actually look, fit, or fold.
- Neither the Merchant nor any Shopper should rely on either feature as professional, medical, legal, or safety advice.
7. Data and privacy
Our collection, use, and processing of Merchant and Shopper data is governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated here by reference. In short: we're the data controller for Merchant account/billing data, and a data processor acting on the Merchant's instructions for shop catalogue and Shopper conversation data.
8. Intellectual property
- We retain all rights to the JolHil software, models, and branding. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our IP to the Merchant.
- The Merchant retains all rights to their own catalogue content, store branding, and data. We only use it to operate the service for that Merchant.
- AI-generated text and preview images are provided for the Merchant's and Shopper's use in the context of that store; we make no claim of ownership over outputs generated from a Merchant's own catalogue content.
9. Service availability
JolHil is an early-stage product offered on a direct-install basis to a limited set of merchants. We do not currently guarantee a specific uptime percentage or service-level agreement. We'll make reasonable efforts to keep the service running and to communicate planned downtime or known issues, but the Merchant should not treat the assistant as a critical-path dependency for completing a sale — the underlying Shopify storefront and checkout continue to work independently of our widget.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, JolHil is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service, including lost sales, lost profits, or reliance on an AI-generated recommendation or preview image. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited under Finnish or EU consumer-protection law — in particular, nothing here is intended to exclude liability toward Shoppers, who are not a party to this agreement and whose rights against the Merchant are unaffected by it.
11. Indemnification
The Merchant agrees to indemnify us against claims arising from the Merchant's own catalogue content, the Merchant's misuse of the service, or the Merchant's breach of their own obligations to their Shoppers — except where the claim arises from our own breach of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Termination
- The Merchant can uninstall the app at any time from the Shopify admin.
- We may suspend or terminate access for Merchants who violate Section 5, abuse the service, or fail to pay after a reasonable notice period.
- On uninstall, we delete the Merchant's catalogue, conversation, and account data per the
shop/redactwebhook timeline described in the Privacy Policy (around 48 hours after uninstall, per Shopify's own schedule).
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top, and we'll make a reasonable effort to flag significant changes directly to active Merchants.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Nothing here limits any mandatory consumer-protection rights a Shopper has under the law of their own country of residence.
